Yesterday, we both started a health and fitness regime that we plan to stick to. This involves a change in routine, a change in diet, and making more time to sweat.
One of the elements that I decided to incorporate into my daily routine is stretching and using my acupressure mat every single day, if not twice a day.
You know what stretching is, but you may have never heard of this mat that I speak of.
An acupressure mat is a spongy surface covered in spiky disks. It typically also comes with a spiky next pillow. Now, in reading that you may be thinking, “Why would you lay on that? Why would you do that to yourself? That sounds so uncomfortable.” Well, it actually doesn’t hurt at all. And, if it does hurt, it’s a good kind of pain.
One your weight is evenly distributed along the mat, there is essentially no pain at all.
An acupressure mat is used for self-healing and stimulating energy in the body. It eases tensions and puts your body into a deep state of relaxing. If you’re like me, and meditation has never really been your thing because you mind loves to wonder, this is the perfect alternative. It relaxes your body and mind without you really trying. Now, in that being said, I wouldn’t recommend watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians while laying on the mat. Closing your eyes and maybe turning on some soft music will put you in the perfect mindset and you will feel the benefits.
When the mat hits the body’s pressure points, the benefits that can come about are…
- Improved Circulation
- Increased Energy
- Reduced Blood Pressure
- Reduced Stress & Anxiety
- Alleviation of Headaches
- Relief of Tension & Muscle Aches
- Improved Sleep & Relief of Insomnia
- Relief of Chronic Neck & Back Pain
- Weight Loss (by reducing cortisol levels)
- Revitalization & Rejuvenation
- Improved Skin Complexion
- Digestive Relief
- Activation of the Parasympathetic Nervous System
If you have any of those systems or you just simply need to relax, I SERIOUSLY recommend trying this out.
I love to do it for 10-minutes upon waking and for 20-minutes before I go to bed. In the morning, it relaxes me, yet gives me energy, and honest, just feels good. Before bed, it puts me in a deep state of relaxation after a long day, loosens my muscles, and prepares me for a perfect sleep.
The nighttime session, for me, is the most important because sleep is very important. Improved sleep helps with weight loss, maintaining youthfulness, and manages stress.
If you want to do a little something extra, you can stand on the mat for 3-5 minutes. There are pressure points in the foot, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, that correspond to the body’s organs.
Spoonk – 100% Cotton Combo; $79.99
For both standing and laying down, I recommended socks and thin clothing. You can be bare skinned, but the sensation can be a little too intense.
Give this a shot and prepare for ultimate relaxation!
